Family Sues Fed Over Child’s Brain Injury
A teenager has been awarded more than $15 million after suffering a brain injury during his birth at the Blanchfield Army Community Hospital at Fort Campbell, Ky. The now 15-year-old suffers from neurological deficits resulting from cerebral palsy, according to his lawsuit, which was filed against the federal government. His family claims that his mother originally suffered from placental insufficiency during the birthing process of her first child, meaning her placenta failed to deliver enough oxygen to the child, resulting in a Caesarean section. However, the family claims that during the injured child’s birth, doctors failed to review the mother’s medical history, which would have indicated she may have needed to undergo another C-Section to deliver the child.
