Long-time Temple attorney John O. Roark has joined the injury lawyer team of Cappolino Dodd Krebs LLP
Roark is board certified in personal injury trial law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and in civil trial law by the National Board of Trial Advocacy. He has over 40 years experience in civil and personal injury trial law, most of it in Temple.
His daughter, Sharon Walters, also joins the staff as a paralegal in the firm’s Temple office.

Local attorney earns place on prestigious Super Lawyers list
Richard A. Dodd, a partner with Cappolino Dodd Krebs LLP in Cameron, has been named to the Texas Super Lawyers list as one of the top attorneys in Texas for 2011.
The new Super Lawyers list will be be published in the October issue of Texas Monthly, which is on the newsstand now.
This peer-reviewed recognition comes on the heels of the announcement in August that the firm was named one of the “Top 20” personal injury law firms in the nation by Newsweek magazine.
“This recognition from two major sources is humbling.” said Dodd. “It is a concrete demonstration of our commitment to helping our clients find the resources they need to recover from serious injuries.”
More important than this recognition, Dodd said, is the fact that he and his partners have made the lives of many ordinary working people better. “When many of our clients come to us they are hurting and frightened. They are often struggling with serious injuries and have huge medical bills, or they’ve lost a loved one in an accident and don’t know where else to turn.”

Dodd grew up on a farm in rural Milam County and brings the work ethic he learned there to his profession. Farming continues to be a big part of his life.

Texas law firm earns spot on top list
Each year, Newsweek magazine recognizes a selct group of personal injury law firms nationwide for recognition for excellence. This year, Cappolino Dodd Krebs LLP, one of only three firms in Texas, was selected to this list.

Cappolino Dodd Krebs LLP Makes a Gold Sponsorship Donation for American Cancer Society’s Rockdale ‘Relay for Life’
Cappolino Dodd Krebs LLP of Cameron made a gold sponsorship donation to the American Cancer Society’s Rockdale Relay for Life last week. Accepting the donation, and representing the Relay for Life committee, was Marie Bakken (third from right). From left are Gerry Heitman, Marilyn Jekel, Debbie Sims, Valerie Farwell, Bakken, Janice Johnson and Danielle Donnelly. All but Bakken are law firm employees. The Rockdale Relay for Life is scheduled for May 17-18 at Tiger Stadium in Rockdale. The event is targeted to all of Milam County in efforts to raise money and awareness in preventing cancer.
Jacksonville, Florida at T2 Lab – Chemical Plant Explosion Kills Four People and Many Injured
According to CNN, “Four people were killed and several injured after an explosion Wednesday at a chemical plant sent a thick plume of smoke over a section of Jacksonville, authorities said.” “Literally, it’s a hellish inferno. Craig Brown Wins First Case As Lead Counsel
Over the past five years Craig has been involved in many trials all over the state of Texas. Some cases were tried as co-counsel and in others Craig was second chair. Craig’s first trial as lead counsel concluded Thursday, September 13th, 2007 in Burleson County, Texas with a win for the Plaintiffs. In a case with soft tissue injuries and eight-month gap between treatments Craig obtained a verdict in excess of an amount that allowed for maximum recovery.

TxU offers are too good to be true
In reference to the story in The Cameron Herald newspaper, “Feeding the (Power) Hungry,” March 22.
This clearly demonstrates the callousness with which big corporations like TxU treat rural Texans. They want to dump over 9,000 tons of pollution into our air every year from a coal plant in Milam County, then they offer huge tax revenues and economic benefits to placate local officials while the rest of us are kept in the dark regarding the health risks. The laws of nature tell us nothing is for free. We’ll be mortgaging our health for generations to come, and realize too late that we’ve traded economic benefits today while condemning future generations to the horrors of birth defects, asthma, lung cancer and other debilitating diseases. These horrors will ultimately mean a huge economic deficit for our community.
If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

A Soldier’s Remark
Last week I was in a local convenience store when I noticed a young soldier using the ATM machine. I thought about all that is going on in the world today and how this young man could easily be in harms way at this moment, instead of the friendly confines of Cameron, Texas.
As I exited the store the young soldier approached the counter and our eyes met. I stuck out my hand and said, “We appreciate ya.” Without hesitating this young man shook my hand, looked me straight in the eye and said, “Happy to do it sir.”
Now that remark got me to thinking. Could I imagine not seeing my family for a year or more? Could I imagine riding in a vehicle not knowing if/when a bomb would go off? Could I imagine walking down the street not knowing that someone, anyone, could walk up wanting to do me harm? And to beat all could I imagine myself telling a perfect stranger that I was “happy” to be doing these things? I don’t really know if I could, but I do know this young man did.
The next time you see one of these men/women why not try sticking out your hand and telling them you appreciate them. What they say might stick with you, what this young man said to me did.
