Graco Recall: More Than Five Million Strollers After Amputations Reported
Your child should not have to suffer serious personal injuries because of a defective product. Unfortunately, Graco has recalled nearly five million baby strollers, over fingertip amputation hazards. According to ABC News, the recall was announced by the U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC), which reported that there were 11 reports of finger injuries “including six reports of fingertip amputations, four reports of partial-fingertip amputation and one finger laceration.” The recall affects 11 stroller models made from August 2000 to September 2014, including about 4.7 million strollers in the U.S. The recall also extends to Canada and Mexico. The recall includes strollers with model names Aspen, Breeze, Capri, Cirrus, Glider, Kite, LiteRider, Sierrea, Solara, Sterling and TravelMate. How Does Cerebral Palsy Affect a Child’s Motor Skills?
In an uplifting local story, eight Central Texas preschoolers with disabilities that include cerebral palsy were given modified battery operated Fisher-Price cars earlier this month. Sadly, cerebral palsy can have a huge impact on a child’s motor skills and physical abilities, limiting how they move themselves. According to WacoTrib.com, the cars were presented to the children during the “Go Baby Go” event at the Education Service Center Region 12. The cars reportedly give the kids the ability to socialize more, as well as improve their mobility and motor skills. “The mobility really does make a difference. (The cars) are a way for them to get out there and experience their world,” said Region 12 Special Education specialist Gina Holman, according to WacoTrib.com. Forceps: What Are the Risks During Delivery?
If your doctor uses forceps at the wrong stage of labor, your baby can suffer a brain injury, bruising, permanent indentations, cranial damage, excessive blood loss or cephalohematoma. It can also experience disfigurement or total disability. In a sad case out of Europe, a child who suffered eye injuries during a forceps delivery was awarded €198,000 in damages. The girl will reportedly have to wear glasses temporarily, as she suffered cuts to her eye, which swelled after her birth. A judge ruled that the use of forceps during her delivery was inappropriate and done incorrectly. The girl also reportedly suffers from permanent scarring under her eye.
