Illinois Student With Cerebral Palsy Claims That Teacher Harassed Her

Posted on March 11, 2013 by

Born prematurely at only 24 weeks, Jada O’Neil weighed in at a meager one pound upon delivery. Because of complications with her birth, she was subsequently diagnosed with cerebral palsy. Now a 15-year-old attending Bolingbrook High School, Jada says that she loves school—or did love it until recently. According to an article on WLS-TV, Jada came home from school a few weeks ago and explained to her parents that a special education teacher made her clean up blood found in the girls bathroom. The blood was not hers, nor was she given any gloves to clean the contaminant. She mopped the floor, maneuvering the mop while in her wheelchair. Illinois Mother Files Lawsuit Alleging Medical Negligence

Posted on March 6, 2013 by

A mother has filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois with allegations of medical negligence by the health care practitioners during her child’s birth. The plaintiff alleges that this medical negligence caused severe birth trauma and resulted in a diagnosis of Erb’s palsy. During her pregnancy, the Illinois mother developed fetal macrosomia— a term that is used to describe a newborn who is larger than 8 pounds, 13 ounces. This includes providing alternative methods of delivery, such as a C-section. The plaintiff’s newborn weighed 11 pounds, 11 ounces at birth. Due to the child’s large size, the newborn suffered a brachial plexus injury during…

Parents of a brain-injured baby have recently filed a birth injury suit against St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach. The suit alleges that the mother received substandard care, and as a result her baby acquired brain damage during delivery leading to his eventual diagnosis of cerebral palsy. According to the plaintiff, the hospital admitted the mother at six months pregnant with ruptured membranes. After two weeks in the hospital, nurses found a blockage in the mother’s IV tube and a declotting drug was administered. However, the mother had an allergic reaction to the drug, causing the fetal heart rate to drop. The doctors eventually ordered an emergency C-section nearly one hour after the mother’s allergic reaction. After birth, MRI scans showed that his brain has been injured. The baby weighed only 2.4 pounds, had difficulty breathing and a slow pulse. Within three months, he was diagnosed with cerebral…
