A Florida medical malpractice lawsuit over a delayed C-section that took place in 1991 has finally come to an end. The plaintiffs claimed that the urgent caesarean was performed too long after the infant first showed signs of distress. The jury found both the doctor and the hospital guilty in causing numerous disabilities such as cerebral palsy, deafness and mental retardation in the infant (now a teenager). They awarded the family $30 million in the largest malpractice lawsuit so far in their area.
