Parents Receive $74 Million in Malpractice Lawsuit against Doctor
In April, a jury in California awarded a couple more than $74 million against a doctor on behalf of their daughter, finding the physician negligent during delivery of their child, which resulted in the baby developing cerebral palsy. During the trail, the couple’s attorney presented evidence that the baby’s heart rate was fluctuating wildly and the doctor did not hasten the birth or conduct a proper examination of cord blood during delivery. After two days of deliberation, the jury found that the physician was responsible for the botched delivery. After the verdict, several jurors hugged the family, who watched over the 3-year-old girl who sat in a stroller with a harness holding her in. Texas Parents Suing After Doctor’s Negligence Results in Child’s Brain Injury
According to the lawsuit, a family in Texas alleged that their child suffered brain damage due to the negligence of the obstetrician and medical staff at Bayshore Medical Center. The family stated that the obstetrician failed to report problems in the medical condition of mother and child, failed to perform an emergency C-section in a timely manner, and failed to diagnose and treat the baby’s condition that led to permanent brain injury. When the mother entered Bayshore Medical Center in Texas at full term to deliver her child, the obstetrician and other healthcare professionals did not document any problems regarding the medical condition of the mother or child.
