Australian Woman Sues Obstetrician over Her Own Birth Injury

Halina Jane Gillett, an Australian women who will be celebrating her 26th birthday this coming October, is suing Dr. Jeffrey Robinson for her current affliction of Erb’s palsy. Dr. Robinson was the obstetrician who delivered Halina over 25 years ago. Halina’s mother, Marilyn Benson-Inglis, states that she asked Dr. Robinson about a caesarean delivery because she was concerned that her child might be too large to deliver naturally. When Halina’s mother went into labor, the two choices available to deliver the child were a caesarean or use of forceps; Dr. Robinson chose to pull the baby out with forceps. Halina now suffers Erb’s palsy, which is a paralysis of the arm caused by an injury to the upper group of the arm’s nerves. Paralyzed Boy Receives $23 Million Award For Birth Injury

According to Scotsman News, a massive pay out has been awarded to the family of a boy who was left paralyzed after his spine was damaged at birth. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde has agreed to settle a birth trauma lawsuit for $23 million, but the total amount of damages has not been revealed. The boy needs 24-hour case for the rest of his life, costing hundreds of thousands of dollars each year. The judge in the case found that the boy has been left paralyzed from the head down after suffering catastrophic neurological trauma at birth. During delivery assisted by forceps, there was a compression-torsion injury to the child’s spinal cord at the highest level. While the infant suffered no brain injury, the child is paralyzed from the head down and cannot breathe spontaneously, requiring ventilatory support with 24-hour case. Wisconsin Girl Receives $18.2 Million in Birth Injury Award

According to Seedol, a Wisconsin woman was awarded a birth trauma settlement of $18.2 million after a jury found the former Sinai-Samaritan Hospital in Milwaukee negligent in the brain injury lawsuit. The plaintiff alleged that she received horrific care from the federally funded hospital that led her daughter to suffer permanent and severe brain damage. The plaintiff claimed she went to the former Sinai-Samaritan Hospital for the delivery of her daughter, and that the hospital staff failed to address her risk of complications , and that she was not referred to a specialist despite the fact that she had been diagnosed with gestational diabetes and had a documented history of previously delivering above average weight babies. Instead, the plaintiff received care by a family practice doctor as well as midwives.
