Metals Found in 95 Percent of Baby Foods Tested
After the US Food and Drug Administration found that 95 percent of baby foods it tested contained heavy metals, a New York Senator has called for a federal probe. According to the New York Post, Sen. Chuck Schumer has demanded an investigation into the findings. New Mexico Family Awarded $73.2 Million for Botched Child Delivery
A family in New Mexico was awarded $73.2 million earlier this month after a doctor allegedly botched a child birth leaving a baby with permanent brain damage. The child reportedly sustained several injuries that will require long-term care. According to the lawsuit, which was filed in Santa Fe, a Carlsbad doctor and healthcare clinic were negligent in caring for and monitoring a potentially risk delivery, which led to the injuries. The doctor involved in the lawsuit allegedly died prior to the trial. The child’s birth occurred in 2013, with attorneys alleging he was quite large, weighing 11.5 pounds. The mother is diabetic and attorneys say the doctor involved in the lawsuit failed to properly examine her over the course of more than a dozen visits to a patient clinic prior to birth. Doctor Answers Phone During Delivery, Child Suffers Brain Damage
A Miami doctor was recently sued for $33.8 million following a botched delivery in which the parents of a child say it suffered from brain damage while the physician took a call from his stockbroker. The Miami Herald reported earlier this year that an obstetrician failed to adequately care for his patients during a 90 minute delivery in 2013, making a series of missteps. The doctor allegedly spoke on the phone with his stockbroker for eight minutes and walked away from the delivery room several times. After the child was delivered, he reportedly had a blue complexion and his limbs were limp. He reportedly suffered from a lack of oxygen and brain damage during the delivery process.
