A Gift Of An iPad
Two children from Katy, Texas, will now be able to communicate with family and friends, thanks to a special Christmas gift from the Katy Police Officers Association. The organization presented Logan Cook, 3, and Kameron Martinez, 14, each with an iPad 2 with Proloque2Go, software that provides communication solutions for people who have difficulty speaking. The funding for the gifts came from officers of the Katy Police Department, members of the Katy Fire Department and other community contributors. With cerebral palsy, dystonia, nystagmus, spasticity, epilepsy and exotropia, as well as a benign brain tumor, Logan Cook has a lot to overcome. “He has full intellect and comprehension, but because of his brain damage form the CP, he can’t talk,” said his mother. Comedian Josh Blue Helps Raise Cerebral Palsy Awareness
Comedian Josh Blue has recorded a public service announcement for the American Academy of Neurology Foundation to help support the organization in its fight to cure brain disease. The video is hoped to raise awareness about cerebral palsy and the need for research. Blue is known best for being the season four winner of NBC’s television show Last Comic Standing. Service Dog For Cerebral Palsy Sufferer
A young man with cerebral palsy has been given the help he needs through the gift of a service dog in Trussville, Alabama. 23-year-old James “Kelly” Russell was born with cerebral palsy, which makes many mundane tasks we would take for granted exceedingly difficult for him. He is confined to a wheelchair, and has trouble with simple things like picking up items and turning off the lights. To his great delight, Russell now has a new friend to help. Russell’s helper, Reba, is a black retriever. The Canine Assistants Program, which offers free service dogs to disabled patients, recently paired up Reba with Russell. Service dogs like Reba can cost upwards of $15,000, far out of the price range of many people who need them. Fortunately for Russell, the Milk-Bone company decided to team up with Sam’s Club to help purchase Reba for him. Through their sponsorship of the Canine…
