Illinois Hospital Sued For a Daughter’s Cerebral Palsy
According to Seedol, the parents of a birth injury victim have filed a lawsuit against Illinois Memorial Hospital alleging the hospital’s staff caused their daughter’s cerebral palsy. Jennifer and Lance Schneider filed a lawsuit against the Illinois hospital alleging their child was born with a hypoxic brain injury. Hypoxic brain injury means that the infant did not receive enough oxygen to her brain during the birthing process. The parents also allege that their daughter’s cerebral palsy was caused by medical negligence on the part of a doctor at the hospital. Cerebral palsy is a group of chronic muscle disorders caused by an injury to the brain that a child suffers before or after birth. Cerebral Palsy Birth Injury Victim Awarded $21 Million
According to Seedol, a Pennsylvania jury has found the Hamot Medical Center’s doctors and staff responsible for birth injuries sustained during the delivery process of Tina Graham’s son. Ja’Kareon Graham and his family were awarded $21,573,993 for a cerebral palsy birth injury sustained in November 2006. Tina Graham testified that she went to the hospital believing it would be the happiest day of her life, as she excitedly awaited the birth of her son. Graham recalled that when she first arrived to the medical center, what should have been routine procedures were not handled properly as she was being prepped for child birth. The plaintiff alleged that the nursing staff failed to properly monitor Ja’Kareon’s heart rate and vital signs, as they did not detect that the baby was not receiving enough oxygen which caused him to reposition himself into a breach position.
