Families who have children that suffer birth injuries and birth defects caused by birth injuries often have huge medical bills and the expense of providing round the clock professional care for their child. Settlement of $6.5 Million in Birth Injury Case

A child, who experienced extensive brain damage more than 10 years ago at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital while her mother was in labor, has been awarded a settlement of $6.5 million. The lawsuit claims that the hospital did not perform a timely cesarean operation when the mother was in labor with her child. The result of the delay is that her child is suffering from cerebral palsy and mental retardation, each directly related to the birth injuries incurred. This means that the child requires constant care, experiences seizures and has no options for employment or independent living in the future. Her mother filed and pursued the lawsuit against the hospital and the delivering physician on order to secure damages and the ability to provide the 24 hour care that her daughter will need for the rest of her life. Botox For Cerebral Palsy

A new study reports that Botox may help relieve moderate to severe drooling problems in children who have cerebral palsy or other neurological problems. However essentially Botox is a poison, a derivative of botulism and the side effects of the injections have been associated with severe and fatal injuries when the injected medication spreads to other body parts. A clinical trial was performed involving 131 children who have been diagnosed with cerebral palsy or other non-progressive neurological disorders. Botox injections caused a significant reduction in the drooling problem in just less than 50% of the test children. The effects of the shot were apparent for about 22 weeks. Getting the medication approved for use in this manner will require an FDA approval which isn’t likely considering the problems that Botox has already caused.
