A study published in Hypertension: Journal of the American Heart Association indicates that preeclampsia may lead to a higher risk after delivery of the child. The higher risk results from the way that arteries are altered by preeclampsia, changing the way that they respond to insulin. In the study conducted by Dr. Risto Kaaja and his colleagues, researchers discovered a link between the ability of blood vessels to expand and insulin sensitivity in pregnant women diagnosed with preeclampsia.
