An Illinois mother was recently awarded $101 million after she sued her hospital when her child sustained brain injuries during birth. 
According to WLS, a Cook County jury awarded the woman the money for her lawsuit against West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park.
The woman’s lawsuit claimed that her now five-year-old son suffered permanent brain injuries because nurses and staff members ignored her concerns about not being able to feel her unborn baby moving prior to his birth.
She reportedly showed up at the hospital and an ultrasound showed the child was not moving, but nurses did not report the findings to doctors. She then allegedly waited for five hours before the delivery process began.
When the child was born, he was limp, pale and not breathing, according to the lawsuit. It was later determined that the child may have had brain damage due to a lack of oxygen. He had to be resuscitated after his birth, the lawsuit stated.
The boy now needs constant medical care and the mother is no longer able to stay home to care for him. He cannot speak, eat or sit-up on his own.
