Final weeks of pregnancy are critical

.!. Babies born just a few weeks prematurely are more than three times as likely to have cerebral palsy than full-term infants. In fact, those last few weeks of pregnancy are critical to a child’s health and development. New research indicates that late preterm infants (those born 34-36 weeks gestation) had a much higher risk of developmental delays than babies born full-term. The earlier an infant is born, the higher the risk of some neuro-developmental problems, the research shows. For example, infants born between 30 and 33 weeks gestation were nearly eight times as likely as full-term infants to have cerebral palsy. Folic acid can reduce brith defects, cerebral palsy

A new study confirms that taking folic acid makes a woman 70 percent less likely to have a baby with a birth defect like cerebral palsy.  download The Hit Folic acid is the synthetic form of the vitamin folate and women should begin taking it at least three to six months before conception. And, since about half of all pregnancies are unplanned, regular consumption of the vitamin — even for those not intending to have a baby — is more critical, according to health officials. Folic acid, a B vitamin, can help prevent spinal and brain birth defects, such as spina bifida and anencephaly as well as other defects not related to birth trauma. Health officials recommend that women take a folic acid supplement daily to ensure they are getting the recommended 400 micrograms a day.
