Parents Of Lost Son Give Back To Community

According to LoHud.com, a news site based out of New York’s Hudson Valley, one charitable family puts a lot of thought and care into deciding how to allot their time and resources.  Ilana and Glen Meyers head the Slater Jett Myers Foundation, which has contributed more than $500,000 to various programs and charities in the region, mostly those that deal with children who suffered birth trauma injuries and other birth defects. Half of Stillborn Deaths Could Be Prevented, Says Study

According to MSNBC, recent study has found that more than two million babies stillborn each year worldwide and about half could be saved if their mothers had better medical care. The rates of stillborn births have not dropped in countries including Britain, France and the U.S. Experts say providing better obstetric care, treating conditions like syphilis, blood pressure and diabetes, could save more than one million infants every year. The research paid by the Save the Children organization, as well as Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation found that in developing countries most stillbirths are caused by delivery complications, maternal infections during pregnancy, fetal growth problems and congenital abnormalities. Finland and Singapore had the lowest stillbirth rates worldwide, two per 1,000 births, while Nigeria and Pakistan had 42 and 47 stillbirths per 1,000, respectively. Family Sues Hospital For Son’s Multiple Disabilities and Cerebral Palsy

According to the Herald Sun, the family of a young boy born with cerebral palsy is suing Queensland Health alleging the hospital staff who managed the birth were responsible for his disability. The family of six-year-old Dylan Wallace filed a lawsuit against the hospital claiming the staff failed to respond quickly to signs of distress in the womb. For at least an hour preceding his birth, the infant was starved of oxygen to his brain and consequently it lead to his cerebral palsy. The birth injury left Dylan with profound physical and intellectual disabilities, including quadriplegia, severe developmental delay and visual impairment. Dylan cannot move or speak and is fed through a tube into his stomach.
