Belleville Family Sues Doctor and Hospital for Birth Injury
According to the Madison St. Clair Record, Jennifer and Lance Schenider filed a lawsuit against Protestant Memorial Medical Center doing business as Memorial Hospital and Dr. Michael E. Herrmann. The parents allege their daughter, Sophia Schenider, suffered a brain injury during the birth process and action of both hospital and doctor caused her cerebral palsy. The Scheniders claim their daughter was born with hypoxic brain injury, which is when the brain does not receive enough oxygen during the birthing process. Because of her brain injury, Sophia developed cerebral palsy. Sophia lost enjoyment of a normal life and sustains disfigurement, disability, pain and suffering, according to the complaint. Sophia Schenider has no ability to become adequately educated, has suffered impaired earning capacity, and will continue to incur large medical costs, the lawsuit states. Birth Injury Victim Compensated $2.3 Million
A small boy of four in Virginia Beach is now a multimillionaire. A birth injury lawsuit filed by his mother after her son was permanently disabled due to birth injuries has netted $60,000 to the mother for medical expense reimbursement, and the amount of $2.3 million in damages to the boy. This award will allow the boy to have medical care, assistance, and compensation for difficulties and challenges he will face as an adult. The defendants in the case included nurse-midwife Rhonda Bertholf, and the medical practice of Dr. Richard M. Valentine Jr. M.D.,PC. Because Valentine’s practice is associated with Bertholf he was named as a defendant in the birth injury malpractice suit even though he had no involvement in the actual delivery.
