Judge Beats Daughter With Cerebral Palsy

A Texas judge is fending off swarms of angry internet users over a video posted on YouTube of him beating his 16-year-old daughter, who suffers from cerebral palsy. The video, recorded seven years ago, depicts William Adams and his wife doling out punishment on their daughter Hillary. Hillary had set up the camera secretly to record the abuse she was experiencing at the hands of her father. In the video, Hillary is being reprimanded for illegally downloading video games and music on her computer. Adams demands that she bend over her bed so he can beat her with a belt. Hillary does not comply, so Adams begins hitting her repeatedly. The video goes on for a full seven minutes, with Adams cursing the girl and hitting her. A Surprising Birth Injury

A mom from Fergus Falls, MN, has learned what brachial plexus injury is in the hardest way possible, through having her newborn son. Carly Schiesser said she read all the books on pregnancy when she found out she was pregnant again, but not one mentioned the injury her son would suffer when he was born. Her son suffered an avulsion, or detachment from the spinal cord, of the nerves that control his hand, wrist and forearm, a rupture of the nerve with controls his elbow and a stretched nerve that controls shoulder function. 10 Epilepsy Drugs Appear To Cause Birth Defects

There is an ever-increasing list of prescription drugs found to increase the risk of birth defects, and new evidence shows that FDA should add some of the most common epilepsy drugs to the list. AdverseEvents, Inc. a company that analyzes the FDA’s adverse drug event database says that 10 of the most popular epilepsy drugs in the United States have been found to have a large numbers of birth defect-related adverse events. Carbatrol/Tegretol, Depacon/Kene/Kote, Dilantin, Keppra (and IR, Klonopin, Lamictal, Neurontin, Topomax, Trileptal, and Zonegran were found to have more than 25 individual birth defect case reports. AdverseEvents is recommending that the drugs be re-classified to D class from C class, associating them with “positive evidence of human fetal risk”.
