Cerebral Palsy Cannot Keep Middle School Kid Off Team

A Georgia middle school student showed that cerebral palsy could not hold him back after he tried out and made the school’s basketball team. Seventh grader Wil Sanders disease affects his muscle tone and hampers his motor skills, but that did not prevent him from trying out for the Evans Middle School basketball team. “When I tried out for the basketball team, I didn’t know what to expect,” said the 13-year-old. “When I made it, I was as shocked as anyone. Service Dog For Cerebral Palsy Sufferer

A young man with cerebral palsy has been given the help he needs through the gift of a service dog in Trussville, Alabama. 23-year-old James “Kelly” Russell was born with cerebral palsy, which makes many mundane tasks we would take for granted exceedingly difficult for him. Cerebral Palsy Sufferer Has New Best Friend

Before bed, Crisp helps the boy pull off his socks and his clothes. The dog opens and closes doors, pushes elevator buttons, and helps with Murphy’s physical therapy. Mason’s mother, Page Murphy, attempted to explain how important the dog was to her son. “Anywhere Mason goes, the dog goes,” she said. “Mason had surgery last week; the dog was in the hospital with him all week. They’re inseparable. They’re best buddies.” Crisp came from Canine Companions for Independence, a company that breeds companion dogs for people with disabilities. It took over two years of waiting to get a dog…
