Bingo For Cerebral Palsy

Being the parent of a child with cerebral palsy can be tough, and it can sometimes be difficult to afford the things that would make their care easier. Mary Anne Richard realized this one afternoon when she watched her friend Cathy Caceres put her 6-year-old daughter in a van to take her home. Lifting the 65-pound girl from her wheelchair did not look easy, and would only get more difficult as the child grew. As Richard considered the difficulties the single mother of three must experience every day, she decided to do something about it. Richard organized a Bingo fundraiser, a night where participants can play for Pampered Chef prizes and buy raffles for gift baskets that local merchants donate to help Caceres’ daughter Maryn. All of the proceeds except the cost of some gift cards will go to help the little girl. It is fortunate we have people like…

Judge Beats Daughter With Cerebral Palsy

A Texas judge is fending off swarms of angry internet users over a video posted on YouTube of him beating his 16-year-old daughter, who suffers from cerebral palsy. The video, recorded seven years ago, depicts William Adams and his wife doling out punishment on their daughter Hillary. Hillary had set up the camera secretly to record the abuse she was experiencing at the hands of her father. In the video, Hillary is being reprimanded for illegally downloading video games and music on her computer. Adams demands that she bend over her bed so he can beat her with a belt. It recently went viral, with link-sharing site Reddit spreading it around the world, causing huge cries of outrage, with users encouraging people to…

Surgery Allows Boy With Cerebral Palsy To Walk

A four-year-old boy suffering from cerebral palsy is finally able to walk unaided after an operation at St. Louis Children’s Hospital in Missouri last month. Mikki Alli’s parents brought him over to the U.S. from Great Britain to have the operation done. The surgery is not readily available in the U.K., and is not covered by the country’s health system. Because of this, Mikki’s parents had to come up with over $50,000 to pay for the procedure. They did this through the contributions of friends, family and multiple fundraising events. The operation, called selective dorsal rhyzotomy, involves the severing of nerves around the base of the spine and improves balance, standing and walking. With Mikki walking, his mom says it allows them significantly more freedom to go to new places, and has made him much happier. Does your child suffer from cerebral palsy that was caused by medical negligence? The…
