According to The Consumer Justice Foundation, a Depakote class action lawsuit has been filed by plaintiffs in St. Clair County, Illinois. This is one among many lawsuits alleging the manufacturer of Depakote, Abbott Laboratories should be held liable for medical expenses incurred and future costs that will incur in caring for those who have been harmed as a result of using Depakote medication. Depakote is an anticonvulsant drug commonly prescribed to women to treat seizures. This is the third class action lawsuit alleging Abbott Laboratories drug Depakote has caused serious birth defects in children exposed to the drug during pregnancy, including spina bifida and heart conditions birth defects. A patient safety group has filed the class action lawsuit on behalf of mothers who were prescribed Depakote while pregnant, which lead to their children being born with birth defects.
