According to the Waco Tribune-Herald, Baylor University and McLane Children’s Scott & White are collaborating on a new facility that will attempt to mix diagnostic, therapeutic and clinical services for kids with developmental disabilities.
The paper reported that the facility, the Baylor University Center for Developmental Disabilities, would offer services to children with autism spectrum disorder and Down syndrome, as well as other intellectual disabilities.
The facility will be located at the Hillcrest MacArthur Clinic, located at 2201 MacArthur Drive in Waco. The unveiling of the facility was made as Autism Awareness Month kicked off earlier this month.
The center will offer individual therapy rooms, a playroom area, small rooms for social skills work groups and a group therapy room.
“[The facility] will include the Baylor Autism Resource Clinic, which provides assessments, consultations, social skills-building exercises and other support services for children with autism spectrum disorders,” the Tribune-Herald reported. “It also will house the Clinic for Assessment, Research and Education, a collective for behavioral evaluations and therapies, as well as the Speech and Language Clinic.”
Can I Pursue a Legal Case if My Child Was Born With a Disability?
Any effort to offer services to those who are less fortunate is a worthy endeavor. Unfortunately, many disabilities that affect a person’s intelligence, including brain damage and cerebral palsy, are the result of a healthcare provider’s negligence.
During the birthing process, expecting parents trust health care professionals with their precious newborn child. Parents should expect a provider to act in accordance with medical standards, as well as take all the necessary precautions to ensure that child’s well-being. However, sometimes this is not the case.
Our birth injury attorneys have decades of experience fighting for fairness and compensation on behalf of families affected by birth trauma caused by negligence. These injuries or disorders often require expensive rehabilitation and therapy; compensation can help provide your family with the best possible care for your child.
